I could get downright depressed if I dwelt on all the missed opportunities I’ve had. Whether it was educational pursuits, relationships, business opportunities or just sharing a word in season with a friend, I blew it! Sometimes I just didn’t move quickly enough or worse still, I didn’t move at all.

Most of us have probably experienced the result of procrastination – “A day late and a dollar short,” someone once said. Our human tendency is to believe that we have blown our chance and that there is no recovery. “That ship has sailed,” we say.

The Bible, however, does not line up with that thinking. Repeatedly, we read story after story of God’s people making monumental mistakes and failures that God used to change the world. Let me site some examples.

  • Peter denied Jesus but the Lord used him to preach the gospel, work miracles and establish the Church.
  • The woman at the well had a radical root of rejection she tried to heal through many relationships with men…then she met Jesus. Her story brought her whole community to believe in Him.
  • Moses got out of God’s timing, attempting to become the deliverer of Israel. God later raised him up to lead His children into the Promised Land.

I am grateful that I serve a God of second chances! How about you?
